Bold Housing Moves for a Brighter Future

The Eagle County Housing & Development Authority (ECHDA) continues to address ongoing housing challenges. High demand, rising prices, limited inventory, and the growth of remote work in mountain communities have intensified competition, often from cash buyers, making it harder for local residents to buy or rent homes.

In 2021, the Board of County Commissioners launched a set of initiatives known as “Bold Housing Moves.” Today, those efforts have become our standard, ongoing programs that support renters, homebuyers, and homeowners. If you’ve heard the “Bold Housing Moves” name before, you’re in the right place. This page highlights the programs that those initiatives helped establish and expand.

Programs for Renters

Rental Funds: This program provides assistance to locally employed, full-time, year-round renters starting a new 12-month lease within Eagle County. It's designed to support the stability of our local workforce by making rental housing more accessible.

Eagle County Homeless Services: Dedicated to offering engagement, support, and resources for our unsheltered community members. This program aims to raise awareness of homelessness's challenges and impacts, providing a pathway towards stability for affected families and individuals.

Programs for Homebuyers

Eagle County Good Deeds: A buy-down program aimed at increasing the availability of deed-restricted homes for sale. This initiative supports individuals who make Eagle County their permanent residence, ensuring they have access to affordable homeownership options.

Down Payment Assistance: Introduced in 1998, the Down Payment Assistance (DPA) Program helps make homeownership more accessible by assisting entry-level homebuyers with one of the greatest barriers to purchasing a home: the down payment. This program broadens homeownership access to a wider range of residents in Eagle County.

Programs for Homeowners

Aid for ADUs: A loan program that assists homeowners in constructing or converting existing spaces into Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), where permitted. This initiative encourages the creation of more affordable housing options within the community.
